In the summer of 2004, Palacana (Fomerly Paleterías Tropicana) began with a single concept: serving homemade, authentic Mexican ice cream to a growing Hispanic market. We decided to open our first paletería, a small but pleasant and friendly place where people could enjoy a flavorful and 100% natural ice cream, Michoacan style.
Palacana didn't stop there! In addition to the authentic fruit-laden Mexican ice cream and paletas freshly made on site, Palacana now offers an extensive menu of fruit cocktails, smoothies, churros, and traditional Mexican lunch and dinner food items.
Starting with the original flagship store in Kansas City's Westside community, today Palacana operates four company-owned stores and 2 partnership stores.

It's what's on the inside that counts
After much planning, Palacana formed a separate legal entity "Paletas, LLC" for its ice cream and paleta business lines. The growth in our wholesale ice cream and paletas sales has placed us in a position to add new staff, expand our facilities and invest in state of the art equipment to better serve our clients.
Paletas, LLC is located in a new production factory in Roeland Park, KS which is just minutes from our other Palacana stores and many of our customers. The production factory provides added space for offices, efficient layout of ice cream equipment, and expansive storage space. Even with the expansion we remain committed to making our ice cream with the best ingredients available using our traditional recipes and always keeping our products fresh and enjoyable.
Looking back over the last 17 years, we are grateful for the opportunity to bring Latin-themed ice cream and paletas to Kansas City and for the many loyal customers who have supported us since the beginning.
